Title IX Coordinator Foundations Level One: Sexual Harassment for Higher Education

10:00am-5:00pm ET

Sexual Harassment for Higher Education is one of two foundational courses in ATIXA’s Title IX Coordinator curriculum for higher education practitioners. This two-day course provides foundational knowledge and skills necessary to oversee and implement policies, procedures, and practices that are compliant with Title IX and VAWA Section 304, as well as other applicable intersecting laws.

ATIXA’s expert faculty members will introduce participants to Title IX compliance oversight responsibilities and guide participants through an in-depth exploration of each stage of ATIXA’s recommended balanced approach to the Formal Grievance Process.

Participants will benefit from engagement with ATIXA faculty members who share examples, explain best practices from their own professional experiences, and answer participants’ questions to cultivate the critical knowledge and confidence Title IX practitioners need to do this challenging and complex work on a day-to-day basis. Title IX Coordinator Foundations Level Two: Sex Discrimination for Higher Education

10:00am-5:00pm ET

This two-day course focuses on sex discrimination compliance responsibilities including overall program assessment. This course will help practitioners address disparate treatment, disparate impact, and retaliation complaints, including targeted culture/climate assessments and investigations. The course explores common program and service areas where sex discrimination complaints originate, including athletics, and best practices for support of pregnancy and related conditions.

ATIXA’s expert faculty members will provide participants and overview of ATIXA’s recommended grievance process for sex discrimination and retaliation complaints, while sharing practical knowledge and tips to prepare participants to lead institutions through complex complaint resolutions. Participants will also examine the intersections between disability law and sex discrimination.

Participants will also learn what to expect when the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) reviews an institution’s program compliance. Click here to learn more.

Informal Resolution Foundations for Higher Education

10:00am-5:00pm ET

This foundational course aims to familiarize participants with ATIXA’s Informal Resolution Framework and the crucial elements to consider when deciding whether to offer informal resolution in a Title IX grievance process. It covers various topics, including the structural and policy choices that institutions must make and how institutional culture affects them.

Rather than adopting a particular model of alternative dispute resolution (facilitated dialogue, restorative practices mediation, etc.), ATIXA’s experts will survey a variety of options and introduce a unique model that is specifically suited to Title IX complaints by borrowing elements of various models while adding some innovative practices uniquely designed to facilitate durable, fair, and equitable resolution of Title IX complaints.

ATIXA’s expert faculty members will also guide participants through a case study as each step of the informal resolution process is discussed in the course. Click here to learn more.
